The rules for AlphaYou API keys and the MCP server: what you may do with the data, the limits that apply, what we log, and when we can throttle or suspend a key.
These terms are a contract between you and AlphaYou, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“we”). If you accept them for a company, you confirm you may bind it, and “you” means that company. You must be 18 or older and able to make a binding contract.
They apply to every AlphaYou API key, the REST API at api.alphayou.net, any hosted MCP endpoint we run, and the data they return (together, the API), except research delivered solely through AlphaYou's official public plugin in OpenAI services. That public plugin is governed by the Public Research Plugin section of the general Terms, including its age and output-use rules. These API terms still apply when you separately use an AlphaYou API key. The alphayou-mcp package is open-source code under the MIT licence: these terms cover the service and data it reaches, not that code. They add to the Terms and the Privacy page. If they disagree about the API, these API terms win. By ticking the agree box and creating a key, or by using a key, you agree to them.
A key belongs to your account. Keep it secret, do not share it, and do not put it in code other people can read. You are responsible for every call made with it.
An account may hold up to 2 live keys at once, so you can swap one without downtime. On the free plan your daily allowance belongs to the account, not the key: every key on an account, and every alias of the same inbox (for example name+2@gmail.com), shares one allowance. On Pro each key has its own allowance. Making extra keys or accounts to get around a limit is not allowed.
Use the API for your own research, your own internal tools, and your own agents and assistants that work for you or your own team. You may quote up to 10 rows from a response, and up to 25 rows in any one article, post or report, with credit. Do not publish quotes on a schedule or in a way that replaces the API. The API, its data and the credit lines that come with it belong to AlphaYou or its sources. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them as these terms allow, and keep every right we do not give. Anything else needs written permission, see below.
Passing responses into an AI model’s context during a request, so it can answer you or your organization, is fine. That is how an agent uses the API. An agent that answers people outside your organization needs an Enterprise licence.
Need more? We license the API to partners. Write to info@alphayou.net about an Enterprise licence.
You may not use the API if you are in, or ordinarily resident in, a country or region under comprehensive US sanctions, or if you are named on a US, UN, UK or EU sanctions list, or if you act for someone who is. You will not let anyone in those places or on those lists use your key.
When you show or quote API data, say “Source: AlphaYou” and link to alphayou.net. Keep the as-of date and the source filing link that came with it. When you quote a performance number, quote its period, benchmark, sample size and full range with it, the way the response gives them. Do not say or suggest that AlphaYou endorses you or your product.
You may keep responses, and any copy, extract or embedding of them, for up to 24 hours to save calls. This does not cover quotes you publish as allowed above, routine backups that are deleted on their normal cycle, your own analysis that does not reproduce our rows, or a copy the law requires you to keep. The limit also does not cover an AI assistant’s normal chat history or logs, as long as you do not use them to rebuild, search or resell our data. An AI provider handling responses under its own terms, as part of your normal use of its assistant, does not put you in breach of this caching limit. Do not build a standing database of what the API returned. Do not present old data as current.
A free account gets 100 requests a day, shared by all its keys. A Pro key gets 50,000 a day. Most calls cost 1 request and some cost more. Every response says what the call cost and what is left today, in the X-RateLimit-Cost and X-RateLimit-Remaining headers.
There are also limits per minute and on how many calls may run at the same time. Over a limit you get a 429 and a Retry-After header. A call refused for going too fast does not use up your day, so wait for Retry-After and try again. We may change limits and costs. The limits you see in the responses are the ones that apply.
If a key is used in a way that breaks these terms, puts the service at risk, or looks like abuse, we may cut its allowance, suspend it, revoke it, or stop the person behind it from making new keys. We may do this with or without notice, though we try to write first when the risk is low. If you think a suspension was a mistake, write to info@alphayou.net.
You can stop using the API at any time by revoking your keys at /developers. Revoking a key does not cancel a paid plan or stop billing. To stop renewal, press Manage billing under Your plan on /developers. When use ends, stop calling the API and delete what you cached, except what the caching section lets you keep. The limits on use, usage logging, research-only, liability and indemnity sections continue after that.
Paid API plans are on sale. The price and what is included are on the pricing page and at checkout, and are billed in advance. Outside the United States, paid plans are sold to businesses only. Prices exclude tax. Where tax applies it is added and shown before you pay. If you buy for a business, give a valid tax number at checkout. Outside the United States, if you did not buy as a business with a valid tax number, we cancel the plan and refund what you paid. Each paid plan has its own 30 day money-back guarantee. If we suspend or end a paid key and you did not break these terms, or we remove a dataset or tool from your plan during a period you paid for, we refund the unused part of what you paid, in proportion to the time left. In every other case the Refund policy applies. If a paid plan ends, your keys fall back to the free plan.
We record each call: which key, which endpoint, which day, how many requests it cost, and whether it was turned away. We also record the caller’s IP address and, for a free key, the account behind it. We also record, as a short code, which companies and funds each key asked about each day, only to detect bulk copying. We never use what you look up to make, rank or time our research, and we never sell or share it. We use these records to enforce limits, spot abuse, help you, and fix faults. Daily usage records, including those short codes, are kept about 35 days. See Privacy.
The keyed API does not return the financial disclosure reports of members of Congress or of executive branch officials. AlphaYou's public research plugin makes Congressional transaction summaries available without charge for public information and reporting, with dates and links to original filings. Each tool states its coverage; a summary is not the complete report. Federal law (5 U.S.C. 13107(c)) bars using these reports for an unlawful purpose, to set anyone’s credit rating, or to solicit money for any political, charitable or other purpose, and limits commercial use of them to news and communications media that spread them to the general public. Do not use this data for any barred purpose. You are responsible for your own compliance.
Data comes from public filings and our own calculations. It can be late, incomplete or wrong, and filings can be amended. A date usually shows when something was disclosed, which can be well after the trade.
We aim to keep the API running, but on self-serve plans we offer no uptime promise and no support response time. Outages, maintenance and changes happen. We may add, change or remove endpoints and fields. We will try to post notice on /developers before removing something people rely on. An uptime commitment exists only in a written Enterprise agreement.
AlphaYou earns a fee when people trade on Hyperliquid through our app, including contracts linked to stocks we cover.
The API is impersonal. We know nothing about your money, holdings, goals or risk, and we take none of it in. The same question about the same stock returns the same data to every key on the same plan. Your plan decides which datasets you can reach and how many rows you get. It never changes the content of an answer or tailors it to you. Everything the API returns is general research, the same for every key on the same plan. It is not individualized investment advice and not a statement that any security suits you. Past results do not predict future ones.
Your agent is yours. If your agent, app or model combines our data with information about a person, or decides to trade, that recommendation or trade is yours. An agent may misquote a number or add advice of its own. We do not control agents and are not responsible for what they say. A response may tell an agent to answer only about the security: that is a note about the data, not personalization. We do not direct, arrange, execute or control any trade through the API.
You are responsible for your own decisions. If you show our data to people, do not present it as advice from us, and do not say that AlphaYou tailored, approved or gave any advice you give.
The API is provided as is. The disclaimers and limits of liability in the Terms apply to it. If you use the API for a business, then to the extent the law allows, you will defend us against, and pay the costs of, claims made against us that arise from your use of the data, your products or agents, or your breach of these terms or of the law, including 5 U.S.C. 13107.
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new date. If a change reduces your rights on a paid plan, we will email you 30 days before it takes effect; it applies from your next renewal, and you may cancel before then. Using the API after a change takes effect means you accept it.
You may not transfer these terms without our written consent. We may transfer them to whoever takes over the API business, and we will tell you.
These terms and the Terms are the whole agreement about the API. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a part is not giving it up. We may send notices to the email address on your account.
